Educational Field Trips

We warmly invite schools and educational groups to experience the wonder of nature at The Red Barn Farm—where learning comes to life! Our field trips, available by appointment only, offer an engaging, hands-on adventure guided by our friendly and knowledgeable staff. From interactive lessons to up-close animal encounters, students will enjoy an unforgettable day immersed in the natural world.

Our programming is thoughtfully aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning in Living Systems and Processes for Kindergarten through 3rd Grade (Standards K.5 – K.7, 1.4 – 1.5, 2.4 – 2.5, 3.4 – 3.5). Each visit includes three exciting rotation-based lessons:

Pollinators and their essential role in our ecosystem – students will even receive a honey stick as a sweet reminder of their learning!
Predators and Prey: Understanding the food chain
Animal Classifications: Meet our resident reptiles, mammals, and birds while exploring each animal’s characteristics, life cycle, and natural habitat

Every student also receives animal feed to hand-feed our friendly barnyard animals, and may even get the chance to hold baby animals—a highlight of the day!

We are delighted to welcome homeschool groups and cooperatives as well.

Pricing: $15 per student and family member
Public and private school teachers attend for free

Schools are encouraged to bring lunch and relax in our picnic shelter, followed by playtime at our farm playground. Ice cream is available for $5—a delicious way to end the day!

Important Notes:

All participants must wear closed-toed shoes for safety.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy it under the serene canopy of century-old pecan trees or in our designated picnic area.
